Lead pipes were banned in the United States in 1986. Now, the plumbing materials are required to meet the federal “lead free” specifications. While this is the case, most homes built before 1930 still have the lead lines.

Also, studies show that 6 to 10 million homes still get their water from lead service lines (LSLs). These are pipes connecting the main drinking water lines to the homes. As you might have guessed, these pipes release lead into the drinking water.

Presence of lead in drinking water harms brain development in children contributing to lower IQs and learning difficulties. The reason why infants, fetuses, and young children are vulnerable to lead is that they are greatly affected by low exposures.

Do you live in an older house or in an area where you believe the lines are served by lead pipes? You should hire a lead service provider to inspect the pipes and give the way forward.

How can we help you?

At EnviroCare, we have highly trained professionals who will help you with the inspection of the pipes and if they are lead pipes, help you with the replacement.

It’s easy to tell if a house has lead service lines. The lines are dull grey and scratch easily, revealing a shiny surface.

Our technicians will replace the lead service lines. There are two types of replacements that the contractors can do: partial and full replacement. While partial replacement is cheap and fast, it has been shown to increase lead levels in drinking water due to the disturbance of the lead service lines.

We always recommend full lead service replacement. Here our technicians completely eliminate the lead pipe from the water main up to the interior plumbing of the house. By doing this, the technicians completely remove the lead source thus you no longer have to worry about the presence of lead in your water.

Who is eligible for LSL replacement?

When you are looking to replace the lines in your private property, you should be the property owner. The property owners should always get an approved permit from the respective authorities.

If the pipes are communal, the involved parties have to discuss with the community members and hire a contractor to replace the lines. Replacing these lines is more expensive as they are usually larger and require more work.
